Summer Lovin'
A friend got me and my boyfriend tickets to a Hollywood Bowl show. It was my first time there, and quite enjoyable--they projected the film "Koyaanisqatsi" while the LA Phil played the Philip Glass score along with the movie. I think Philip was up there somewhere, banging away on a keyboard. Plus we saw Eric Wareheim from Tim and Eric wandering around.
The Bowl is an open amphitheater, but it was a perfectly cool. I realized that Angelinos have a lot of these little open-air summer evening events that involve them doing a little BYOB/food/pot. There is the Hollywood Forever cemetery where they project movies onto the side of a mousoleum, we have our own Shakespeare in the Park (not quite as illustrious as NYC's) at Barnsdall Art Park, movies shown on apartment roofs in Echo Park, and I'm sure there are a ton of things going on at the beach that I'm just not privvy to.
At both Hollywood Forever and Barnsdall I have witnessed the craziest picnic baskets you can imagine, and drinking wine from the bottle is encouraged if anything. Needless to say, summer in LA is pretty damn nice on a cool Saturday night, reclining on a picnic blanket and watching something entertaining while sharing hummus and cheese with a neighbor. Gotta enjoy the mingling of LA bourgeois and destitute hipster while it lasts. It's a rare camaraderie!

I saw Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams, and Neko Case at the Hollywood bowl. The weather (and the music) was perfect. It was totally magical.
