As I have suggested in past, I am estranged from my dad and have been for about 10 years. So are my two sisters and my mom. My brother, however, (the eldest) maintains a bit of a relationship with him.
So my brother has recently become engaged. He also came to visit LA with his fiancee for a little more than a day, and at breakfast we were talking about the wedding -- who was going, how big, etc etc. It apparently is going to be very small: the fiancee's family (around 20 people) and our family (5 people). My brother also humbly mentioned that he might invite my dad. Of course, this ruffled some feathers. I would probably buck up and go, but I know for a fact that if my father went to such an intimate gathering, my two sisters and my mother would not. I discussed this with my mom:
Dodo: Yeah so he mentioned he might invite Dad...I have a feeling sister 1, sister 2, and you probably won't go if Dad goes.
Momma: You're right. None of us would go, but let me tell you something Dodo, this is his wedding and his fiancee's wedding. They can invite whomever they please, and have it wherever they want. Ok? Get that straight. But he had better damn invite The Special Neighbor Family, Our Nanny, Uncle Bob [not related] and the judge he works for. He has to understand that.
