This is devotion

Near collapse after 24 hours of getting back to my home, I'm gonna blog.

One of the most amazing things we did in Italy was hike 4 hours to a town you can only access on foot, and then upon reaching our destination proceeded to gorge on incredible food. Although we huffed and puffed the whole way, proud of our hours of exertion, these treks are not uncommon to the locals. As we headed up we saw old donnas walking back from the store, where they went down early in the morning to get some sundries and a cuppa with a friend. These women often at least met our pace.

I discussed this with the husband of our guide-couple after seeing a geriatric granny pushing a stroller up a cobbled path. He told me about when he and his friend first started the business 20 years ago, they often hiked and walked around to do "research." One day they found themselves going up the equivalent of an ancient Stairmaster 3000, saying to each other "God, these stairs are 1,000 years old! No one has climbed these stairs in a 1,000 years. We will be the only masters of these stairs in a century!" Then an old woman passed them, carrying about 30 pounds of groceries.
