I have noticed that the people who park themselves on a chair outside of grocery stores to raise money from exiting customers hardly make an effort these days. This morning I went to get a few sundries and the woman asked me if, sister, I could help a charity--with a mouth full of popcorn, not even looking me in the face. Another recent incident of similar ilk happened to me a few weeks ago when a girl was in full nurse's (?) garb, supposedly raising money for something, pulled her cellphone receiver away from her mouth (not her ear) only long enough to see if I had some cash for somethinoranother and hardly blinked when I said no.
Clearly the charities aren't doing so well either.
On a side note: my favorite California recession image thus far (via LAist)
