So I turned through a gas station-- so what?

I got pulled over by a cop last night. In the really good part of town. The part of town so good that the officer's first words were, "What are you doing here-- you work here?" Because my skin is brown. 

Then he asked me if my plates were ASU plates. They are. "You're paying extra for those," he informed me, "So you should at least get new ones, so they can look nice." 

I was baffled by this comment. Baffled. Why would someone give me advice on making my car look better? "Officer," I stammered, "my car is a piece of crap."
