Everyone is blasting Michael Jackson ALL THE GODDAMN TIME in this town. The cars have him thundering with their windows down, the DJs are playing him, he's over the speakers at bars and gas stations, the little folk bands gigging low body-count shows cover him. I can understand that many realized they forgot the guy was a brilliant musician and decided to buy every album he ever made, ever, but I don't see the need for the noise pollution in reaction to the dude's death. What, like we're going to forget? Like we need the consistent reminder--"Hey, remember MJ died? Remember that he made this album 20 years ago and it was amazing but didn't make anything decent since? Cool, just making sure." Yeah, I need that every 5 minutes I'm in a public space.
In related news I may very likely be taking a coworker's shift starting at the very beginning of the Staples Center memorial service so she can haul her 5-year-old to the dentist. I'll have to get around the clusterfuck of a traffic escapade to get to work (roughly 3 miles south of MJ memorial hub). It's normally my day off. Buddha better be giving me big points for this one.
My only consolation will be if I witness the Phelps/Westboro Baptists protesting the service outside the Staples Center as all of Los Angeles throws pointy objects at them.
